Australia’s population is growing rapidly – what does this mean for our future food resources?
Take a look at population growth and the impact it is having on our land, water, communities and the economy.
Interpret an Australian climate map and make connections between climate, agriculture and animal breeds, and understand how famers select animal breeds based on their sustainability.
Discover how things are going to happen in the future by looking at the technology currently helping farmers have more sustainable and efficient farms.
Teaching note: This is a key resource to help students understand what is happening in the farming world that will help create sustainable farms for the future, which is directly relevant to the cross curriculum priority of sustainability. With strong connections to the Year 5 & 6 Science curriculum, they will learn about animal selection based on behavioral and structural adaptations, how the growth and survival of living things are affected by the physical conditions of their environment, and how scientific understandings, discoveries and inventions are used to solve problems that directly affect people’s lives. Students will also learn why it is important to sustain Australia’s resources to provide for our growing population, which links to the Year 5 & 6 Economic and Business curriculum.
