Beef produced using HGPs is safe to eat min read

The use of hormone growth promotants (HGPs) in livestock is strictly regulated in Australia

It is safe to consume beef from cattle that have been given HGPs as they pose no health risks for consumers

HGPs are regulated by the Australian Government, Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA).

Food Standards Australia and New Zealand (FSANZ) has demonstrated that you would need to eat 77kg of beef to consume the same level of oestrogen contained naturally in a single chicken egg. APVMA and the Australian Department of Health and Aged Care have concluded that residues of registered HGPs do not pose any appreciable risk to consumers from cattle treated with HGPs when used according to good veterinary practice.
