Australia’s red meat and livestock industry generated a total turnover of $77.1 billion in 2023-24.
This is greater than the turnover value of other relatively large industries, such as the information media and telecommunications sector, the arts and recreation services sector, and the private education and training sector. Red meat and livestock production (beef cattle, sheep farming and feedlots) accounted for 46%, processing 35%, and wholesaling and retailing 19% of overall red meat industry turnover.
Industry turnover is defined as income generated by businesses within the industry from the sales of goods and services.
